A U.S State Department fact sheet, published before the WHO mission during the waning days of the Trump Administration, alleged, without evidence, that several WIV researchers had become ill with symptoms like COVID-19 or common seasonal diseases before the first case was publicly confirmed in December 2019.

There’s one suspicion that nearly a year and a half into the epidemic, the Covid-19 virus still hasn’t been found in an animal. Another suggests it is a coincidence that COVID-19 was first discovered in Wuhan, where the leading lab studying coronaviruses, the WIV, is established.
