True Grit Joe DeLany Shirt Meaning
Joe DeLany was a standout multi-sport athlete at North Fulton High School in Atlanta before joining legendary coach Bobby Dodd at Georgia Tech, where he lettered in football from 1956 to 1958.
After his playing career ended, DeLany became a successful businessman while also pursuing football officiating part-time. Over the years, he rose to become one of the most respected officials in college football. During his remarkable 45-year officiating career, he worked 20 bowl games, including six national championship games, and became one of the few officials ever selected to officiate all five major bowl games — the Rose, Sugar, Orange, Cotton, and Gator Bowls.
DeLany also made a lasting impact on the sport by writing an officiating manual that was used by SEC football officials for 12 consecutive years. In recognition of his dedication and service to the game, he received the George Gardner Award in 1997.
