Specifically, Paris Hilton revealed an old year photo of herself wearing a tank top with the slogan “Stop Being Poor” on it, telling fans in a TikTok video on Monday that the text on the shirt was edited. 

The image was taken in Las Vegas in 2005. It has since been edited into a popular reaction photo online. People often used it when they discuss topics related to economic inequality.

On the other hand, information from KnowYourMeme’s archive pointed out that the photo was edited with the aim of disparaging the depravity of Hilton and her sister. The reason is that in the 2000s, Paris used to be a face with a strong influence on the fashion world around the world.

Paris Hilton said Stop Being Poor Shirt is photoshopped. Hilton confirmed: “So there’s this photo online of me. I’m sure you’ve seen it. I never wore that shirt. This was completely Photoshopped,” She added. “Everyone thinks it’s real, but that’s not the truth.”

Then, she published another picture of her from the same party to prove what the shirt “really mentioned,” which was “Stop Being Desperate.” This design was actually released in 2005 under Nicky’s Chick brand.

She also emphasized that people should not trust what they read every day on social networks.”Don’t believe everything you read,” she quipped.

After seeing Hilton’s post on TikTok, Jubilee, a pixel artist, tweeted that they were the ones who photoshopped the shirt. The artist admitted that they posted the photo on Tumblr in 2013. However, they had never expected it to garner such attention. 

“LMAO omg Paris Hilton made a tik tok abt the shirt I photoshopped,” Jubilee said.

Via Twitter DM, Jubilee shared with The Daily Beast that on a whim late one night in May 2013, she came across the original photo of Paris Hilton on Tumblr. She revealed: “I thought the juxtaposition of her flamboyant ‘ta-da’ pose and message on her shirt was hilariously contradictory, so I wanted to push that a little further.”

The artist emphasized she never imagined that people would think the image was real, let alone have such a reaction to it. Jubilee admitted that the response really made her shocked.  She couldn’t think that the image got so many notes so quickly. 

Then, there were lots of articles about how Paris Hilton was an awful person for wearing the shirt. Jubilee said that it made her feel pretty bad because honestly, she was just trying to make a funny shirt

After that, Jubilee was considered to have got the whole interaction hilarious and it looked like Paris had no hard feelings. Even, the actress invited Jubilee on her podcast “This is Paris” on Wednesday to talk about it all.

Hilton responded by emphasizing that she always believed that there was some “paparazzi agency” behind the edits. In addition, she called the meme “hilarious” and “iconic.”

She stated: “I thought it was funny when it came out but I also didn’t want to insult people by thinking I would wear that,”. Hilton didn’t forget to add: “Glad to finally clear this one up for the haters.”
