Sandell Boots Texas Tate Sandell Takes Down No 1 Shirt celebrates Tate Sandell, the University of Oklahoma Sooners’ placekicker, following his dramatic game-winning field goal against the Texas Longhorns on October 10, 2026.

Sandell Boots Texas Tate Sandell Takes Down No 1 Shirt Meaning

Tate Sandell

In the famous Red River Rivalry, Oklahoma defeated No. 1-ranked Texas 27–24 when Sandell kicked a 47-yard field goal as time expired. The victory was especially significant because it marked Oklahoma’s first win over an AP No. 1-ranked team since 2007. Sandell’s clutch kick instantly made him a hero among Oklahoma fans.

The phrase “Tate Sandell Takes Down No. 1” refers directly to Sandell helping Oklahoma defeat the top-ranked Texas team. In American football, a placekicker can decide a game by scoring a field goal, and Sandell delivered when the pressure was at its highest. Although he had missed a long field-goal attempt earlier in the game, he recovered and successfully made the decisive kick in the final seconds.

The words “Sandell Boots Texas” use a football pun. In this context, “boots” refers to kicking the football, while also suggesting that Sandell effectively knocked Texas off its position as the nation’s No. 1 team.

Overall, the Sandell Boots Texas Tate Sandell Takes Down No 1 Shirt is a commemorative design celebrating one of Oklahoma football’s defining moments of the 2026 season.
