The t-shirt features the phrase “Cats Against The World” and No. 51, Fitzgerald’s old jersey number. It’s a smart way to refer to Patrick William Fitzgerald who used to be the head coach of the Northwestern Wildcats football program, until his 2023 termination after a hazing scandal.
Pat Fitzgerald was fired as the football team’s head coach of the Northwestern University football team following an investigation into hazing allegations. Although the institution claimed there was not “sufficient” proof that coaches were aware of the misbehavior, its president claimed Fitzgerald “should have known.” His dismissal brings to an end a 17-year tenure as head coach at his alma university, during which time he had a regular-season record of 110-101 and a bowl record of 5-5.
