Laken Riley is a 22-year-old nursing student at Augusta University. She was tragically murdered while jogging near the University of Georgia (UGA) campus. Jose Antonio Ibarra, 26, was arrested on murder and assault charges, according to federal investigators. He entered the United States illegally in 2022 and had previously been arrested. This incident has become a focal point for political discussions surrounding immigration policies in the United States.
Greene confronted Biden as he approached the lectern and gave her one of the pins, which he accepted. Greene told Biden: “Laken Riley. Say her name Mr. President”.
President Biden mentioned Laken Riley in his State of the Union address and linked her death to immigration concerns. However, he appeared to mispronounce Riley’s name.
“Lincoln Riley, an innocent young woman who was killed by an illegal. That’s right. But how many of the thousands of people are being killed by illegals.” Biden said.
Greene was not satisfied with this. She shared in a tweet sent out during the State of the Union: “Utter disrespect. Joe Biden gets Laken Riley’s beautiful name wrong”.
The Marjorie Taylor Greene Say Her Name Laken Riley Shirt is an appropriation of the Black Lives Matter movement’s chant, designed to give voice to women who have been killed by police.
