Kardashian said that she was specifically referring to those who believe that simply appearing on a reality show or cultivating a considerable social media following is enough to succeed.
The comment sparked harsh criticism from Kardashian’s detractors. Many felt angry with the advice that women needed to work harder, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately pushed women out of the workforce, in which women of color bear the brunt of job loss.
Others said that many of the women she was blaming were not raised in Beverly Hills by rich and famous parents – her father, Robert Kardashian, is a well-known and well-connected lawyer.
Kardashian’s comment has continued to flood on Twitter, as Oscar co-host Regina Hall even mocked the reality TV star over the comment section on Sunday’s ceremony stage.
