It was in the Rugby World Cup semifinal match between England and the Springboks (South Africa national rugby union team). England flanker Tom Curry alleged that Springboks hooker Bongi Mbonambi called him a ‘white c***’ in their match.
World Rugby is presently looking into the matter, but many people have noted that it might all have been a case of mistranslation.
Supporters have consistently speculated that the hooker might have been speaking Afrikaans and uttered the phrase “wit kant,” which means “white side” – the color England was wearing that day.
