Panchi-Kun

Harambe” was a gorilla at the Cincinnati Zoo who was shot and killed in 2016 after a child fell into his enclosure. His death sparked massive internet attention, debates about animal treatment and safety, and later became a widely shared meme — people jokingly invoked Harambe as a symbol of protection, nostalgia, or internet irony.

“Panchi-kun” (also called Punch) is a baby Japanese macaque at the Ichikawa City Zoo in Japan who went viral online in early 2026. He was abandoned by his mother soon after birth and raised by zoo keepers. Due to this, he struggled socially with other macaques and often clung to a stuffed orangutan toy (nicknamed “Oran-Mama”) for comfort.
