Today, it is best known via the popular Hots&Cots app – a “Yelp for the military” where junior enlisted troops post reviews and photos of moldy barracks, broken HVAC units, and terrible dining facility (DFAC) food to force accountability from leadership.

“Sweatbox Season” refers to the peak of summer when poorly maintained barracks completely lose air conditioning or have their cooling systems fail, turning concrete barracks rooms into literal sweatboxes.

Adding the image of a thermostat is the ultimate punchline of the shirt. In many military barracks, thermostats are either entirely locked behind plastic covers, controlled centrally by the base (meaning the AC isn’t turned on until a specific calendar date regardless of the temperature), or are completely broken and covered in mold.
