In the video, the young boy and his mother were engaged in a conversation with a school administrator who claimed that the Gadsden flag patch on his backpack goes against district regulations. As per the staff’s explanation, the banner with the image of the Gadsden flag on Jaiden’s backpack is associated with “slavery” and “the slave trade.”
The administrator states: “The reason that we do not want the flag displayed is due to its origins with slavery and the slave trade”.
Jaiden’s mother has responded to this disciplinary measure by asserting that the flag, which features a coiled snake above the phrase “don’t tread on me” is not a representation endorsing slavery. She has clarified that the flag has its roots in the Revolutionary War and was designed as a symbol of resistance against British oppression.
There has been a lot of discussion around this circumstance. It is argued that the school cannot discriminate against Jaiden’s viewpoint by incorrectly declaring the Gadsden flag as a symbol of hate.
