The phrase “Double Winners” refers to Chelsea winning two major European trophies in 2021: the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Super Cup. These achievements established Chelsea as one of the dominant clubs in European football that year.
The first trophy came in May 2021 when Chelsea defeated Manchester City F.C. 1–0 in the Champions League final. A goal from Kai Havertz secured Chelsea’s second European Cup/Champions League title, ten years after their famous 2012 triumph. The victory was especially memorable because it came only a few months after manager Thomas Tuchel took charge of the team.
The second trophy followed in August 2021 when Chelsea faced Villarreal CF in the UEFA Super Cup, a match between the winners of the Champions League and Europa League.
