During the race, Hocevar and Blaney were battling for position when their cars made contact with about 43 laps remaining. Blaney’s No. 12 Ford was sent into the outside wall, ending his race after he had led a race-high 202 laps. Hocevar went on to finish third. Blaney later gave a more balanced account of the incident, saying he viewed it as roughly 50–50, with both drivers fighting for the bottom lane and neither wanting to give up the position.
The bigger story behind the shirt happened after the race. Blaney approached Hocevar on pit road and pushed/grabbed him while confronting him about the crash. Hocevar immediately responded by throwing punches, and the argument turned into a physical fight before NASCAR officials and team members separated the two drivers. The confrontation quickly became one of the most talked-about moments from the Bristol race.
The phrase “Fight In Racing” therefore refers to the unusual combination of NASCAR racing and an actual post-race fistfight. As of September 21, 2026, NASCAR CEO Steve O’Donnell said neither Hocevar nor Blaney would receive a post-race penalty for the fight, although NASCAR was reviewing whether any crew members involved should face penalties.
