In Thailand, Father’s Day is honored on December 5 – the birthday of late King Bhumibol, who is regarded as the father of the country.

Taiwan holds Father’s Day on August 8 – the eighth day of the eighth month – since the word for eight in Chinese is “ba” and the term for father is “ba-ba”. It is also Father’s Day in China, but it was moved to the third Sunday in June.

In Scandinavia, the celebration of Father’s Day was applied in the 1930s. At first, the American date was adopted, but in 1949 the Nordic nations decided to change it to the second Sunday in November. However, Denmark keeps the same day as their other early June holiday, Constitution Day since they forgot to announce to the public and press about the date change.

Egypt, Jordan, Kosovo, Lebanon, Syria, and the United Arab Emirates pick the celebration on June 21, coinciding with the summer solstice, while in Brazil the holiday is on the second Sunday of August, in honor of Saint Joachim, the patron saint of fathers.
