Florida sues Biden over the vaccine mandate for federal contractors

The state of Florida sues Biden, NASA, and a number of officials and agencies in the Biden administration over coronavirus vaccine mandate for federal contractors to be vaccinated, opening a battleground between Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis and the White House.

DeSantis sues Biden, saying that the rule interferes with Florida’s employment policies and threatens the state’s economy.

Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody and Gov. Ron DeSantis on Thursday announced a lawsuit against Biden’s order requiring government contractors to mandate vaccinations and make sure employees are fully vaccinated by Dec. 8.

Speaking at a press conference, DeSantis said: “It’s important for us to take a stand. Tossing people aside is just not something we can tolerate here in the state of Florida, so we are going to do everything we can.”

DeSantis says Florida sues Biden to protect jobs in the state and ensure people will not lose their jobs whether they opt to get a vaccine or not. He recently declared that he would call on state lawmakers to come to the Capitol next month to pass legislation against vaccine regulations enacted by private businesses.

"If you don't comply, you either have to fire people, or ... they'll just cancel the contract entirely, even if this is something you bid for and you won fair and square. We don't think they have the authority to do that," DeSantis stated.

DeSantis is eyeing a possible 2024 presidential run and has been consistent in his criticisms of Biden’s handling of the Covid-19 pandemic and other matters.

Florida’s lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court in the middle district of Florida’s Tampa division named Biden, NASA, the General Services Administration and the Office of Management and Budget as defendants.

"Because the government’s unlawful vaccine requirement seeks to interfere with Florida’s employment policies and threaten Florida with economic harm and the loss of federal contracts, the State seeks relief from this Court," the lawsuit says.
"Nothing in that statute authorizes such a radical intrusion on the personal autonomy of American workers—especially, as is the case here, when many of those workers are officials of a sovereign state," the lawsuit reads.

The lawsuit comes after President Biden signed a new vaccine mandate on federal workers, health care staff, and businesses with more than 100 workers to be vaccinated or tested weekly to contain the latest surge of Covid-19 pandemic. The new vaccine rules have a massive impact on the US workforce.

Florida’s lawsuit is not the only attempt to prevent the implementation of vaccine mandates. In other cases, judges have mostly sided with private institutions that require vaccinations.

Biden has argued that the sweeping mandates will help end a pandemic that has claimed more than 740 thousand American deaths.

Some businesses representing federal contractors have urged the government to extend the deadline for employees to 2022, explaining that the deadline could result in mass resignations at the height of the holiday season, and could contribute to the supply chain crisis.

Florida sues Biden- Is it a good idea?

According to the latest poll from Gallup, President Biden’s approval is only at just 42%, the lowest of his term until now. A majority of the country disapproved of his handling of the coronavirus.

Biden’s approval rating has dropped precipitously over the last several months. The reasons for Biden’s approval decline are obvious. A chaotic and disastrous withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan, the surge in Covid-19 cases because of the Delta variant, and the ongoing supply chain crisis.

It comes as no surprise when the wave of protests to president Biden is growing bigger than ever. Those who are dissatisfied with Biden express their objection at any available opportunity. And wearing political shirts is a popular way to show their disapproval of the president.

Here are some notable t-shirts on the market. If you do not agree with Biden’s handling of Covid-19 pandemic, show your thoughts with one of these shirts.
