Biden shutting down pipeline
Biden shutting down pipeline in order to get the United States from fossil fuels, although Republican lawmakers warn that Biden Michigan pipeline would lead to fuel price shocks through the Midwest.
The Biden administration is considering the possibility of eliminating the Line 5 pipeline- which links Superior, Wisconsin, with Sarnia, Ontario – and collecting data to determine if Biden shutting down pipeline will make fuel prices rise, according to published reports.
Line 5 is part of a network that moves crude oil and other petroleum products from western Canada, carrying about 540,000 barrels per day. Petroleum is taken from the pipeline in Escanaba, Michigan.
The pipeline is believed to supply vital products used to heat homes and businesses, fuel vehicles and power North American industries.
Those who support its operation accuse its closure of exacerbating fuel shortages and raising prices as residents head into the winter months.
Biden Michigan pipeline has drawn criticism and dire warnings
Earlier, Biden administration has received much criticism for shutting down the Keystone Pipeline, which has damaged America’s energy independence.
Biden shutting down another pipeline, Michigan’s Line 5, has faced a lot of criticism from opponents, more than a dozen of whom sent a letter to Biden on Nov.4 warning against such a move because gas prices increase by 50%.
In a letter dated November 4 led by Ohio General Assembly Bob Latta urged President Joe Biden to keep the line operating as it was essential to the lifeblood of the Midwest and closing it would only encourage increase energy bills. They have warnned that millions of Americans will have to pay more to heat their homes this winter if the Biden administration shuts down a gas and oil pipeline that runs through Michigan.
'Should this pipeline be shut down, tens of thousands of jobs would be lost across Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, and the region; billions of dollars in economic activity would be in jeopardy; and the environment would be at greater risk due to additional trucks operating on roadways and railroads carrying hazardous materials,' the lawmakers wrote.
'Furthermore, as we enter the winter months and temperatures drop across the Midwest, the termination of Line 5 will undoubtedly further exacerbate shortages and price increases in home heating fuels like natural gas and propane at a time when Americans are already facing rapidly rising energy prices, steep home heating costs, global supply shortages, and skyrocketing gas prices.'
“This irresponsible action will hurt farmers, businesses, and families. President Biden has already done enough to weaken America’s energy security and international alliances, and the consequences of terminating Line 5 would only heighten these growing challenges,” the letter reads.
Former Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm, Biden’s energy secretary, predicted Sunday that heating prices will increase this winter regardless of the Biden administration’s decision on the pipeline.
“Yeah, this is going to happen. It will be more expensive this year than last year,” Granholm said.
