On July 20, 2021, the Scranton City Council unanimously voted to rename two roads after President Joe Biden. The Central Scranton Freeway will be renamed to the President Joseph R. Biden Jr. Expressway, or Biden expressway for short, and Spruce Street will be changed to Biden Street.

Overhead sign replacement made traffic slow on Interstate 81 heading north in Lackawanna County Wednesday morning. If you had to stop in traffic on Interstate 81 north in the Scranton area, you could indirectly criticize the president.

Council President Bill Gaughan originated the effort. He said street signs in the city center will begin to change in the next few weeks.

“We have many streets in the city named after presidents, and we only have 46 presidents, and one of them grew up right down the road here on North Washington Avenue. So, to me, it’s important to honor the president in that way by having a street within the heart of our downtown named after him,” Gaughan said.

Spruce Street is home to many small businesses. As the signs change, several of those businesses might need to make some changes.

NewsNation affiliate WBRE spoke with business owners about the change and how it will influence them in the next few weeks.

“The business address as far as, letterhead, business cards, vendors, changing that address. Those are the initial things that come to mind,” Saunders said. “I think the actual naming of the street is a street.”

But some businesses here announce they won’t change their addresses.

“We are at Tom Grudis Optical and the Bare Accessories at 424 Spruce Street.”

Stephanie Grudis says if she changes to address, she will have to pay a lot of money.

“There’s a lot of other things that have to be changed. Your streets, they’re terrible. Your parking is the number one issue. You’re now paying 25 cents for 7 minutes. You don’t change that? Nobody’s coming. and I don’t care what the street name is.”

Signs of Biden Expressway and Biden Street will be covered until the city holds an unveiling ceremony that they hope president Joe Biden will be present.

Two roadways to be renamed after President Joe Biden. Does he deserve it?

Biden Expressway- Is it a great idea?

We all know that each street name has its origin. The street names’ meanings are not random. They reflect local history and honor figures and events considered to be significant to the local community. So the street names can be deemed as the cultural markers of a town and its history.

Street names can often be changed relatively easily by city authorities for a variety of reasons. Sometimes streets are renamed to reflect a changing or previously unrecognized ethnic community or to praise politicians or heroes.

But does President Joe Biden deserve after many things he has caused to the United States? Does the president who abandoned his citizens and allies deserved to be honored?

Though the withdrawal of the U.S. troops ended, it has still caused controversies. While top generals recommended the president not to withdraw all of the American soldiers, he decided to pull all, which led to chaotic and tragic ends in Afghanistan.  13 American soldiers were killed and hundreds of people were injured.

Biden lied to Americans many times. President said 13 days before his deadline of Aug 31 that “If there’s American citizens left, we’re gonna stay to get them all out.” But is it the truth? Hundreds of American civilians and thousands of Afghans were left behind and surrounded by dangerous terrorists.

Mistake after mistake. The August 29 drone attack in Kabul was a “righteous strike” on ISIS-K terrorists. But ten citizens including seven children were killed. It was truly a tragic mistake. No terrorists were killed in Kabul by a drone strike but ten innocent civilians fell by Biden’s wrong decision.

Killing citizens by drone strike is one of the primary limitations of the strategy advocated by Biden and his administration after the withdrawal of the U.S troops from Afghanistan.

Now, we have yet to be told the identities of the victims of the drone attack on August 27. We must accept the Pentagon’s word that the bad guys were killed, just as we have to believe Biden when he tells us the withdrawal from Afghanistan was an “extraordinary success” and the best decision for the United States.

Biden also disappointed many people due to the border crisis. According to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and Vice President Kamala Harris keep saying that “The border is closed.” But we can see that a surge of illegal immigrants coming from all over the world is flooding in from Mexico, under the supervision of Border Patrol agents.

“If you come to the United States illegally, you will be returned. Your journey will not succeed and you will be endangering your life and your family’s lives. This administration is committed to developing safe, orderly, and humane pathways for migration. This is not the way to do it,” Mayorkas said while taking a trip to Del Rio, Texas.

After a week of stonewalling by DHS and the White House press office, Mayorkas told Fox News Sunday that most of the 17,400 illegal immigrants who were cleared from under the Del Rio Bridge in Texas will stay in the United States.

He revealed 10,000 to 12,000 already have been released into America to melt into the shadows, and another 5,000 are now being processed by DHS, some of them will also be released.

So that’s an 80% to 97% success rate for the first 12,400 to enter America. Biden and his administration are creating favorable conditions for what can be considered a deliberate invasion.

After many things Biden has caused, is it a great idea to rename two roadways after his name? The road name should be renamed after those who deserve and greatly contribute to America. Many people feel it’s insane to change the road name after President Joe Biden. They share their opinions about Biden Street and Biden Expressway on Twitter.
